Limited Edition Pair of Hand Painted Koi
In November 2018, 344 juvenile koi were discovered at the Dr. Sun Yet-Sen Classical Chinese Gardens during the efforts to save the remaining prized adult koi from an insatiable otter. This auspicious discovery was symbolic of the virtues attributed to koi fish including harmony, courage and resilience.
Inspired by the act of community support, I created 344, an installation of hand painted porcelain koi for the 2019 Culture Crawl exhibit entitled Displacement. Each koi is numbered, dated and concealed in pairs.
Created with peaceful intention, they are lovingly finished to capture the essence of the colourful expressions found in nature.
